Bronny James is putting together some encouraging performances for the Lakers in the NBA summer league. His father, LeBron James, faces growing uncertainty on whether he will play for the Lakers this season. A potential move involving Lebron James could also include Bronny James following his father to his next NBA destination.
The Sporting News writer Jeremy Kruger analyzed a potential trade featured on Bleacher Report. Here are some of his thoughts on a new destination for Bronny and Lebron:
“Bleacher Report’s @Three_Cone created a bold LeBron trade idea. This trade would send both LeBron and his son Bronny James to the Miami Heat in return for a solid starter and some draft capital. The trade looks like this:
“Lakers trade: LeBron James, Bronny James
“Miami trades: Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, two first-round picks
“This trade would definitely be worthwhile for the Lakers. Not only are they getting much younger and more athletic by replacing LeBron with Wiggins, but adding two first-round picks in the process. The Lakers need defense and draft capital for the future. This trade gets them both. While LeBron is still an elite playmaker, he has lost more than a step on the defensive end. Wiggins is still only 30 years old and averaged 19 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists last season in Miami. Wiggins would be the perfect wing to play alongside Luka Doncic. He could stretch the floor with his solid three-point shooting and guard the opposing team’s best guard or wing. The draft picks would also allow the Lakers to potentially make more trades down the line as they build their team around Luka.”
The Lakers’ focus for the future has shifted into building the best team around Luka. Moving on from Lebron James as his career winds down while getting a player who could fit perfectly around Luka makes sense for the Lakers. It is clear that Lebron’s tenure with the Lakers is reaching its end. That could involve Bronny James’ career continuing somewhere else.
Miami is a great place for a defensive athlete like Bronny James to land as he continues to develop his offensive game. Erik Spoelstra would be a great coach for him. Bronny James would thrive in “Heat culture.” Lebron James had great years in Miami, so the Heat would be a great destination for him and his son.
Getting Wiggins would be the perfect Laker replacement for Dorian Finney Smith. If the Lakers are going to lose Lebron, they might as well get something back of value. This trade would be a win-win for all parties.
