Former WVU guard Javon Small scored 17 points and added nine assists for the Memphis Grizzlies in the team’s final NBA Summer League game Sunday. The Grizzlies topped the Los Angeles Clippers 105-82.

Small came off the bench Sunday, also tallying four rebounds, one steal and a +34 +/-, the only non-starter to finish positive for the Grizzlies.

With another three-pointer, a mid-range jumper while going 4-4 from the free throw line, Small had his second straight 17-point game after a 92-88 loss to the Atlanta Hawks July 17. Against the Hawks, Small added five assists and rebounds.

Small tallied four points and a team-high six assists in 19 minutes in his Summer League debut against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Grizzlies selected Small with the 48th pick of the 2025 NBA Draft. He was the first Mountaineer to be drafted since Jevon Carter, who was also picked by the Grizzlies in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Small is one of three former Mountaineers to compete in the 2025 Summer League. Miami Heat guard Erik Stevenson and Minnesota center Jesse Edwards mark the other two.

Small played his final year with WVU after one season at Oklahoma State and two at East Carolina. He averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game and was named to the All-Big 12 first team.

His WVU career came to an end in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Tournament in a loss to Colorado. The Mountaineers finished with a 19-13 record and a 10-10 mark in the Big 12.

The Grizzlies have yet to finalize their roster. Memphis finished 48-34 last season and was swept in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
