NBA:
Yang Hansen was held out of Saturday’s summer league game. It turned out to be the final one as the Blazers lost to Phoenix. It was only a handful of games and a small sample size against players that will likely be in the G League next season but for now Portland looks smart for their shocking draft day decision selecting the Chinese center.
Also, over the weekend Damian Lillard posted a pic of him signing his new contract with GM Joe Cronin in the shot. Lillard is rehabbing an achilles injury and won’t play this season.
MLB:
The first weekend back after the All-Star Break and the Mariners take the series from Houston, but they couldn’t sweep the ‘Stros. The Mariners fell 11-3 in the series finale…after leading 3 to nothing early. The Mariners trimmed the Astros’ division lead to just four games. Seattle’s next game is tonight at 6:40, as they host the Milwaukee Brewers.
San Francisco stays 3rd place in the NL West and tied with the Reds in the Wild Card race..after losing to the Blue Jays yesterday, 8 to 6. The Giants take on the Atlanta Braves at 4:15.
MLS:
The Portland Timbers are coming off a weekend tie. The Timbers tied Minnesota United FC Saturday at home. The Timbers will travel to Los Angeles on Friday to face LAFC at BMO Stadium.
LOCAL:
The Elks finished up their series with Cowlitz. Now they’re on the road this week staring tomorrow night in Walla Walla.
Bend’s Sam Renner made history at Sunriver Resort by winning the 123rd P-N-G-A Men’s Amateur and successfully defending his title. Renner… who plays for Washington State is the first golfer since 1972 to win back-to-back championships at this event, just six players have since 1899.
