The summer league is over for the Philadelphia 76ers after Friday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas. The Sixers played eight games in total–three in Salt Lake City and five in Vegas–and their attention now turns to making sure they lock up Quentin Grimes as well as preparing for the 2025-26 season.
Looking back at the summer league, the Sixers got some productive play out of new addition Dominick Barlow who was signed to a two-way deal in the time between the Salt Lake City summer league and the Las Vegas summer league. Barlow ended up playing in two games for the Sixers and averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in those games.
For Barlow, here are some takeaways from his performances:
Size and length
Barlow, who has three years of NBA experience under his belt, gave the Sixers a lot of size and length at the big man spot. There were plenty of times in those two games when he came up with some big rebounds for Philadelphia and helped create extra possessions. For a team that can struggle with rebounding at times and needs some type of help on the frontline, Barlow makes a lot of sense in that department.
Offensive rebounding
This is just more so an extension of the size and length that Barlow brings to the table, but he averaged 4.0 offensive rebounds per game in Vegas. The Sixers always need some help in that department and with somebody like Barlow who is bouncy, athletic, and relentless on the glass, they can rely on him to be a backup to Joel Embiid at times. While on a two-way deal, one can assume he will spend a lot of time in the G League, but when the Sixers need some young legs to turn to in the dog days of the season in January and February, Barlow will take on a bigger role.
A blend of youth and experience
Barlow is only 22 years old, but he already has three years of NBA experience to bank on. That is going to help when coach Nick Nurse needs to turn to somebody to provide some minutes on the frontline when Embiid is dealing with injuries or if Andre Drummond is dealing with injuries of his own. The Sixers appear to have found a good option in Barlow who can produce right away, has experience to lean on, and has the ability to give Philadelphia a jolt when needed.
