The official signing of Damian Lillard has fans and pundits wondering about Portland’s long term plans with its backcourt. It’s filling up with veterans in Dame, and the recently traded-for Jrue Holiday, and the youth movement in Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe. Recent reports from NBA experts focus on coach Chauncey Billups’ emphasis on defense pointing to Sharpe being the odd man out in the rotation. That’s basically why Anfernee Simons was swapped for the defensive-stopper Holiday. This final year of Sharpe’s 4-year rookie contract could be it for his time with the Blazers, especially if Lillard is recovered from his achilles for the ‘26 – ‘27 season.
