LA Lakers fans are upset with a former player, after he said the favourite day of his NBA career was being traded.

Max Christie was sent to the Dallas Mavericks as part of the Luka Doncic trade last season. He was a fan favourite in LA, but no longer after his recent comments.

Max Christie is here at Frisco Athletic Center for Mavs Academy Hoop Camp. He’s participating in a Q&A session with the campers. One asked what was his favorite day of his NBA career.

At the Mavs Academy Hoop Camp, Christie was asked in a Q&A with young players what his favourite moment in the NBA was. His reply, “It was when I got traded to the Mavericks.” Lakers fans reacted with fury.

LA Lakers fans react to Max Christie saying his favourite NBA moment was being traded

Lakers fans didn’t take kindly to Christie’s comments. Some saw it as a betrayal from one of their favourite players.

One fan posted to X, “It really be your own people 💜💛😭”, and another agreed, “can’t believe it demon 💔 it be the ones closest to u.”

Christie’s comments contradict what he said after the trade. He admitted that it was “overwhelming”, and got “zero seconds of sleep” when he found out the news.

Fans of both teams were quick to point that out. One Mavericks fan said, “Why did he lie like that? LOL. I’m a Mavs fan but I just can’t believe it.” Another asked, “Why he talking crazy now?”

Some fans took the comments as a dig at the LA Lakers. One fan commented, “the worst place in the world for a developing player is LA”, and another said that it shows how Christie felt about his time in LA, saying, “Max hated being a laker”.

LA Lakers dysfunctional offseason reveals a culture problem

The Lakers’ offseason activity has exposed a severe issue with their culture. General Manager Rob Pelinka has had difficulties navigating the transition between the LeBron James era and the Luka Doncic era, and it almost cost them everything.

According to reports, the Lakers have been clear that they are targeting the 2027 offseason for free agent acquisitions. That meant James was unhappy with the Lakers, as he looks to win his fifth NBA title in the limited time he has left.

The Lakers’ actions suggest that they saw James as a roadblock to their transition to Doncic. However, James has offered no resistance to Doncic. All of this Lakers posturing is for seemingly no reason.

Now, as James considers retirement but doesn’t seem to be leaving the Lakers any time soon, Pelinka and the Lakers need to address their locker room environment before the season starts.

James has not reached out to the Lakers’ signings this offseason, which is yet more evidence of his attitude towards the team. If they want to contend this season, LA need to fix that.
