Former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce is a man of his word. Pierce said during Wednesday’s episode of Speak on FS1 that if the Celtics lost Game 2 to the Knicks Wednesday night, he would walk to work in a robe on Thursday.
Sure enough, Boston blew a 20-point second-half lead on Wednesday, and Pierce was up early Thursday morning chronicling his journey to the FS1 studios.
“Alright, time for me to get to stepping. … I’m a man of my word,“ Paul Pierce posted on his Instagram story bright and early. ”Alright, man. Welcome to this journey. Here I go. I’ll get back with y’all in a minute.”
The sun was just starting to come up as Pierce started walking. He said Wednesday that he thought the walk was about 15 miles.
“If the Celtics lose Game 2 at home I promise you I’m walking here tomorrow. I’m walking here. I’m walking here 15 miles,” Pierce said on Speak. “I’m walking here, in my robe, no shoes on, bare feet, if the Celtics lose tonight. I’m walking. I’m telling you right now. … I guarantee this one. Put the house on this game. … No shot we lose. No chance.”
However, as Pierce got into his walk on Thursday, he provided an update, sharing that it is actually about a 20-mile walk form his house to the FS1 studios.
“To give y’all an update… I’m going to take a right and go up into the mountains pretty soon. I’m over here sweating. I need to take a break in a minute. This is crazy, dawg,“ Pierce said. ”I can’t believe this. The Cs got me out here like this.
“I’m about four miles in right now. So I think I’ve got like another 16 miles. I’ve been going for about an hour and a half right now. I’ll keep y’all updated. I’m a man of my word, though.”
It looked for much of Wednesday’s game that Pierce’s guarantee was going to work out just fine.
Boston built a 20-point third-quarter lead and appeared ready to cruise to a victory.
However, instead, the Celtics went cold, the Knicks heated up and New York earned a 91-90 win. The Knicks are now up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series after also rallying from 20 points down in Game 1 of the series.
The Knicks used a 21-4 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead and were able to hang on down the stretch.
“Man, this really wild, though. I can’t believe this,” Pierce said. “The Celtics got me out here like this, dawg. I’m really walking out here like this. Man, I can’t believe it.
