San Antonio Spurs Rookies Did Not Get Better ‘Skill Wise’ in Summer League originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The San Antonio Spurs added two premier rookies to the roster in the 2025 NBA Draft, and both had dazzling moments in the Summer League, although it’s clear that both still have a ways to go before they are NBA stars.

Dylan Harper, like Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama, only played in a couple of games, as the Spurs already know exactly what they have on their hands and really have no reason to play him, despite fans wanting to see him in action.
Both rookies left a lot to be desired with their shooting percentages, although such a small sample size is not enough to give reason to panic.

While both rookies are full of promise, getting better at certain skills was not the goal of the games.

“It’s hard to get better skill-wise over Summer League, shooting-wise, moves, all that, but you can get smarter over Summer League and you can get on the same page, and I feel we accomplished that,” said Mike Noyes, who coached the Summer Spurs.
Harper will, at times, be tasked with running the offense. His “smarts” are very important to his success. Bryant is expected to be a heady defender, so the exact same could be said for him.
Don’t expect either rookie to give fans a full taste of their skills until several months into the season.
