Portland Trail Blazers guards Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday are now teammates after they were actually traded for each other back in 2023.
Holiday said that he eventually wanted to retire with the Milwaukee Bucks (where he won a title in 2021) before he awoke from a nap to learn that he was traded to Portland without warning. The Trail Blazers re-routed him to the Celtics, where he would eventually help win another championship in 2024.
After multiple seasons with the Celtics, however, Holiday was eventually (once again) traded to the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile, after a contract buyout with the Bucks, it was not long before Lillard decided to join his former team as well.
The two players won a gold medal for Team USA basketball during the Tokyo Olympics.
According to Lillard, during his time in Milwaukee, he maintained a relationship with Holiday.
In fact, Holiday was actually Lillard’s landlord:
“When I lived in Milwaukee, I rented his house for two years so we talked a lot. Like, I was complaining to him about the wifi. There’s a clip online of like I shake his hand, we played them in Boston, we had an interaction and people we’re like what? And we were literally talking about his wifi at his house.”
It sounds like Holiday needed to improve the WiFi at his house!
