The Chicago Bulls have had a relatively quiet offseason, but one big move has eluded them.

After making the play-in again last season and crumbling against the Miami Heat, the Bulls’ playoff drought extended to three seasons. Still, in a year of immense change, Chicago had some positives.

One of the most intriguing pieces of Chicago’s campaign was the emergence of Josh Giddey toward the end of the season. Giddey, who the Bulls acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder for Alex Caruso last offseason, blossomed into a potential building block as the season progressed.

However, Giddey’s solid play only presented more questions than it answered, as the guard is now a restricted free agent. While some suspected the negotiating process might drag on, not many believed there would be no deal nearly three weeks into free agency.

While the two sides haven’t been able to come to an agreement yet, there could finally be some traction on a deal keeping Giddey in Chicago for the long haul. According to a recent report from ESPN’s Jamal Collier, Giddey has recently met with Bulls coach Billy Donovan and has had some positive contract talks with the team.

Considering Giddey is a restricted free agent and there are almost no other teams with the money to sign him, the Bulls’ patience is unsurprising. They know that Giddey’s future is in their hands, and the market isn’t exactly jumping at the opportunity to hand the Australian guard his desired $30 million per year.

All signs point to Giddey being a Chicago Bull when next season tips off, but for how long and how much is still uncertain.
