The summer league is over for the Philadelphia 76ers after Friday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas. The Sixers played eight games in total–three in Salt Lake City and five in Vegas–and their attention now turns to making sure they lock up Quentin Grimes as well as preparing for the 2025-26 season.
Up next in this edition is Mark Armstrong who is looking for his first real NBA opportunity after being undrafted out of Villanova. He spent the 2024-25 season playing for the Long Island Nets in the G League and played four games in the Las Vegas summer league with the Sixers. He averaged 13.8 points and shot 41.2% from deep in the summer.
For Armstrong, here are the biggest takeaways:
Ball-handling
Armstrong certainly looked for his own offense rather than for others, but he didn’t turn the ball over much and was a steady presence for a summer league team in need of it. The Sixers had trouble in the early part of the summer against ball pressure and Armstrong helped in that regard while giving the Sixers a spark in terms of just simply being able to get into their offensive sets and create good, open looks.
Scoring
The summer Sixers needed somebody who could put the ball in the basket and Armstrong provided it. He was efficient with his 3-point shot, was a crunch-time scorer, and did a lot of good things with the ball in his hands. Armstrong was able to perform well enough to where the opposition began seriously game planning for him down the stretch of the summer league. With an ability to score like this, there is a pathway for him to earn an NBA opportunity at some point within the near future.
NBA auditions
Armstrong should eventually earn an opportunity in the league. However, it probably won’t be in Philadelphia when considering the fact that Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, VJ Edgecombe, and–most likely–Quentin Grimes are on the roster. Not to mention the return of veterans of Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon. Therefore, there isn’t much opportunity for Armstrong with the Sixers, but one has to believe he will be considered for a spot with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
