It was quite a season for head coach Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team. After going 23-11 in the 2023–24 season and losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to NC State, the 2024–25 campaign marked a clear step forward.
Texas Tech finished second in the Big 12 with a 15-5 conference record and turned in a 28-9 overall mark. The Red Raiders advanced all the way to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before falling, 84-79, to the Florida Gators, who went on to win the national championship.

This offseason, the Red Raiders have remained active in the transfer portal as they look to build on that success heading into next season.
Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported a key development for the program as summer workouts approach:
“Texas Tech transfer Devan Cambridge has received a medical hardship waiver and has been granted another season of eligibility for his 7th year of college basketball,” Tipton posted.
Cambridge, a 6-foot-6 forward from Nashville, Tennessee, began his career with three seasons at Auburn, where he played in 91 games. He then transferred to Arizona State, starting 35 of 36 games during his lone season with the Sun Devils.

His time at Texas Tech has been plagued by injury. He appeared in just 14 games across two seasons. In his first year, he played only eight games before tearing a ligament in his knee. Last season, he averaged 5.5 points per game across six appearances before stepping away from the team to pursue a hardship waiver.

McCasland addressed Cambridge’s situation in a previous statement:
“Devan is seeking a medical hardship waiver and is no longer with the team,” the statement read. “We are thankful for his contributions to our basketball program.”
Looking ahead, Texas Tech will welcome five new transfers via the portal. Josiah Moseley from Villanova headlines the group. LeJuan Watts (Washington State), Tyeree Bryan {Santa Clara), Luke Bamgboye (VCU) and Donovan Atwell (UNC Greensboro) round out the Red Raiders’ incoming class.
