With the Larry O’Brien trophy in their hands, Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Joe double-dipped on the NBA championship parade festivities. A little over a month since the Oklahoma City Thunder won the title, the two role players returned home this offseason to celebrate the accomplishment.

Williams and Joe held an NBA championship parade on Wednesday in their hometown of Fort Smith, AR. The two teammates have been tied at the hip at every level. They were high school teammates and attended college together at Arkansas. For the last three years, they’ve been on the Thunder as well.

The Thunder is also Arkansas’ team. Only a three-hour trip separates OKC from the state. It shouldn’t be a shocker to see so many Thunder fans at the state next door. Williams and Joe both playing key roles in their title run was just extra incentive for the NBA champion.

Battling hot temperatures, Williams and Joe talked to the crowd. It was the least they could do for the fans who showed out despite the dangerous July weather. The two NBA players frequently return home during the offseason. Might as well also celebrate the title.

“Whoever thought two homegrown kids from Fort Smith, Arkansas, would be home holding this trophy right here,” Joe said. “We would not be able to do it without you guys, just know that.”

Williams also discussed the strong support from Arkansas fans. While most college basketball fans root for their guys to have successful NBA careers, the Razorbacks faithful is one of the more vocal fanbases that show love to their alumni.

“It means the world to Isaiah and me, the support we get from y’all. It makes me want to tear up,” Williams said. “It’s crazy how many games we have where it’s Arkansas fans, or people telling me ‘I’m from Fort Smith.'”

When you win an NBA championship, you have an entire summer to celebrate it. The Thunder had one of the greatest seasons ever with a historic 68-14 regular-season record and capped it off with a championship run filled with ups and downs. Williams and Joe were perfect role players who helped out at different points.
