The San Antonio Spurs, for the sixth year in a row, will be drafting in the lottery. With a young core of Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, and, of course, Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs are expected to compete for a playoff spot next season, and the addition of De’Aaron Fox should give fans plenty of reasons to be excited.
The Spurs own their own pick and one from the Atlanta Hawks, both of which are in the lottery. San Antonio has a combined 6.7 percent chance of drafting first overall.

If the Spurs can somehow land Cooper Flagg, it will kickstart a dynasty, and fans of 29 teams might boycott the NBA.
“A Spurs lottery win would only widen the gap between the West and the inferior East, and it would give San Antonio an embarrassment of riches when also factoring in their surplus of future first-round picks,” wrote SB Nation’s Ricky O’Donnell.
“Putting Flagg next to him for the next 10 years would just be overkill (by the way, 10 years from now, Flagg will only be 28 and Wembanyama will only be 31). A Spurs lottery win would be a disaster for the rest of the league. San Antonio with Wemby and Flagg would be absurdly good.”
Of course, the Spurs likely won’t be in the running to draft Flagg, which, from a league-wide marketing standpoint, would be a good thing. Wembanyama is already the face of French Basketball, and Flagg was invited to Team USA’s training camp ahead of the Paris Olympics.

If the league could market the 2029 NBA Finals as a “Gold Medal Rematch” and have competing young stars meet in the postseason, the rating would be off the charts.
While Spurs’ fans can dream of the pairing, the rest of the NBA would like to see Flagg land anywhere else.
