ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that head coach Billy Donovan has agreed to a contract extension to remain with the Chicago Bulls. Following Charania’s report, CHSN insider K.C. Johnson provided brief context to the extension, explaining that it is a multi-year deal. Donovan’s deal comes after the extensions Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas and General Manager Marc Eversly received earlier this year.
BREAKING: The Chicago Bulls and head coach Billy Donovan have reached an agreement on an extension.
Per @KCJHoop, these discussions began long before the New York Knicks pursuit of Donovan earlier this summer.

In his five seasons with the Bulls, Donovan has coached 400 regular-season games, achieving a win-loss record of 195 wins and 205 losses, resulting in a win percentage of 48.8%. During this time, the Bulls have made the playoffs only once and have had just one season with a winning record.
Many believe that extending Donovan is a sign of mediocrity, especially when compared to how quickly other organizations move on from head coaches. However, Donovan has done a commendable job in developing players like Ayo Dosunmu and Matas Buzelis.
