KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Oklahoma City Thunder Organization was in Kansas City Tuesday, teaching area kids basketball skills.
There was even more excitement this year from the kids as the team is coming off a big season. Around 50 youth, ages 6 to 9, got to spend the morning at Hy-Vee Arena for three hours learning new tricks, shooting skills and even life lessons before dozens of 10 to 14-year-olds got to take the courts to do the same.
The arena was decked out in Thunder blue as the organization teamed up with Simple Modern to host this Hustle camp, in 15 different cities across the country.
The kids shared excitement about dribble drills and making friends with their coaches.
But, Coach Andre Houze Jr. says, while they spend time expanding on those basketball skills, kids are learning much, much more.

“We teach HEART here at Oklahoma City Thunder youth camps, that’s an acronym that stands for hard work, encouragement, attitude, respect and teamwork. Those life principles, if you apply them to any part of your life, you’ll be a successful person,” Houze Jr. said.
The kids, of course, knew the answers quickly when asked which team won the NBD finals last year. Many of them actually said getting to go to this camp was part of their holiday presents.
