The San Antonio Spurs lucked their way into three elite draft picks, and now it’s winning time.

Stephon Castle is the reigning Rookie of the Year and looks like one of the best two-way guards in the NBA. Dylan Harper, yet to make his debut, seems to be a high-level facilitator and crafty slasher who should open up the floor for Victor Wembanyama.

And then, of course, there’s Wemby, the most transformative prospect in NBA history, who has already cemented himself as a versatile scorer and the best defender of the game.

Wembanyama is easily the centerpiece of the Spurs moving forward, although much like Tim Duncan, the Spurs need to surround him with quality, complementary talent.

Harper was recently compared to the best teammate Duncan ever had.

“He has some Ginobili to his offensive game,” one Western Conference scout told ESPN. “If the 3-point shot ever becomes a true weapon, he makes Fox expendable and gives San Antonio a nice trade asset.”

In college, Harper shot only 33.3 percent from deep, although his lanky frame, quick decision-making, and flashy play do help the Ginobili comp gain some steam. Of course, Manu came off the bench for most of his career, and Harper, behind Fox and Castle, might be asked to do the same.

While Ginobili was willing to make that sacrifice for the greater good of the team, Harper might force his way to the starting five, giving the Spurs some flexibility on the trade market and ammunition to pursue a star.
