With a successful tank behind them, the Utah Jazz have one of the most important offseasons in team history. Utah has a 100% shot at a top-5 pick as well as the best possible odds at winning the lottery. That said, the Jazz have a lot of young talent that has shown a lot of promise. If they can all improve on their weaknesses, the Jazz could be looking at being a playoff contender sooner than we think. For each player on the Jazz, here are the things they should be working on this offseason.
Kyle Filipowski
Improve strength and fitness level
By the end of a surprising rookie season, Filipowski looked gassed. Filipowski’s offensive game looked advanced for a rookie. His defense was a mixed bag. Opponents shot 67.2% against Filipowski at the rim this season. Clearly, he’s not a good rim protector, so he’ll have to be impactful at the four defensively. He seems quick enough to do that, but can he get himself into peak shape to play at a high level on the perimeter defensively and still be physically inside? That will be a key for him to find more and more minutes.
Brice Sensabaugh
Look into pine tar
Somehow, Brice Sensabaugh has to figure out how to stop turning the ball over. His shot is looking phenomenal, but if he constantly turns the ball over, it negates its effectiveness. Sensabaugh averaged 1.5 assists with 1.5 turnovers per game, and this was averaging 20.2 minutes per game. If he can get that down, it can make him an even more effective offensive player.
Isaiah Collier
Shooting
Isaiah Collier has to improve his shooting. The assists are incredible, and if he just improves his shooting, he takes things to another level.
Keyonte George
Film study and strength training
Like so many players, Keyonte George needs to work on his shooting, but it’s the shots he shouldn’t be taking that will improve his game. His assist numbers went up last season, but his shooting was stagnant. If he can just take out 2-3 bad shots, his shooting numbers will look so much better.
In addition, he needs to improve defensively. Whether it’s strength or just flat-out getting tougher, George needs to improve his defense. If he does, he will become the player many fans hope he can be.
Collin Sexton
Put out some sort of “I love the Lakers” tweet
Utah needs a trade partner, and the Lakers love trading for undersized shooting guards who don’t play defense to play with LeBron James. Let’s make another shocking trade happen. Sexton to the Lakers will get the headlines, I tell you!
Walker Kessler
Improve the free-throw shooting
Kessler tried shooting threes this season for a stretch, and it didn’t work. But the thing that will have the quickest and most impactful improvement to his game would be improving his free-throw shooting. Shooting 52% from the free-throw line this season was nowhere near good enough. If he shoots like that, he’s a liability in close games.
Cody Williams
Strength and … everything
It was a rough rookie season, and there’s not a lot of sugarcoating that can, or should, be done. Williams needs to get stronger physically and mentally. There were too many times when he was invisible on the court. He has the tools to be a good defender if he can get stronger physically. He also needs to be stronger mentally. He was too timid and looked like he was afraid at times to make mistakes, to the point that he would do very little.
He also needs to improve his game. It’s not far for him to be a productive player if he can defend and hit his threes, but he has to actually be able to do those things to impact games.
Lauri Markkanen
Get some good luggage
Utah is very likely to go after a top-5 pick again next year. It’s been reported already that Utah wants to keep their pick next year. To do that they have to be bottom eight, otherwise it goes to the Thunder. Regardless of who the Jazz pick this draft, they can’t get their with Lauri Markkanen playing regular minutes. It’s also a waste to have an asset like that just to not play him. Get ready for a trade rumor filled summer.
John Collins
Hire a social video person
This summer, the trade rumors surrounding John Collins will be the least surprising thing that happens. The best thing Collins can do? Help that value go up. The more teams interested in Collins, the more chances he has to go where he might want.
Jordan Clarkson
Stop tweet-baiting Ryan!!!!
If there’s one thing that Ryan Smith loves, it’s a pro-Utah tweet, and Jordan Clarkson knows it. Don’t believe me?
from: ❤️ to: UTAH
— Jordan Clarkson (@JordanClarksons) April 29, 2022
Or how about this?
He’s covering his bases here
Or here:
great energy tonight! great win! love Utah

If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s Jordan Clarkson loving Utah.
great energy tonight! great win! love Utah

It’s probably what got him the contract. Now, I want him to stop because I don’t think Ryan can help himself with these types of tweets.
Taylor Hendricks
Get healthy!
The absolute worst thing this year wasn’t all the losses but the injury to Taylor Hendricks. Hendricks’ return will be one of the greatest of all the things we’ll see next season.
