San Antonio Spurs Hidden Trait Brings ‘A Lot of Value’ originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The San Antonio Spurs are a scary team heading into next season, although it’s unclear just how good they will be.

A core of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Carter Bryant, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, and Keldon Johnson should be one of the best in the league.
However, Fox and Wembanyama have only played in five games together, and the Spurs have a bit of a logjam at point guard.
Still, the sky is the limit for the team.
“Wembanyama is absolutely incredible,” said Zach Lowe. “He’s a top 10 player already. I don’t even know how fast the development could happen, and where he will rank after next season if he stays healthy, it’s frightening. Number two, I think Fox is going to be hungry. I think he wanted to go to San Antonio. I expect him to get a deal done this summer. So he’ll feel secure and wanted, no mystery, no nothing.”

While Wembanyama and Fox are certainly the stars on the roster, the Spurs, thanks to savvy moves and young talent still on rookie contracts, are expected to be one of the deepest teams in the league.
Their depth players all have to prove that they belong, so the Spurs will have high-effort players on the court for all 48 minutes, all season long.
Their opponents simply will not get a break.
“They are going to be a hard-playing deep team every single game, which has a lot of value in the regular season over 82 games, youth and effort can go a long way if you have enough talent,” Lowe continued.

While defense, effort, and physicality often lead to regular-season success, those traits are even more important in the playoffs, so as long as the Spurs make the postseason, they will be considered a matchup nightmare, even against more experienced teams.
