The Houston Rockets and Reliant, in partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, are teaming up to host their third annual back-to-school-bash.

This 2025 event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time on Friday, August 1, at Houston’s Moody Community Center (3725 Fulton Street). Courtesy of Reliant and the Rockets, it will feature a backpack giveaway along with a distribution of school supplies for up to 1,000 students.

Each backpack will contain food vouchers from Chick-fil-A and Pizza Hut, while Aquafina has donated water to be provided throughout the event.

Steve Francis, formerly an All-Star guard with the Rockets, will make an appearance at the event alongside the team’s gameday entertainers. In addition to participating in basketball clinics, students will be able to receive a complimentary back-to-school health screening from Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, while the Houston Health Department will offer eye screenings through its “See to Succeed” program.

Other offerings include the opportunity to receive a free haircut from Franklin Beauty Institute, as well as complementary mobile spa services from the Sparkle Spa Bus.

Courtesy of the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation and the City of Houston Public Library, students will be able to tour and take home a book from the Curiosity Cruiser, which is described as a “super library on wheels.” As part of its “Kroger Chef Junior” initiative, Kroger will have chefs on hand to conduct sessions on how to prepare healthy meals.

Other features of Friday’s event, according to the Rockets, include inflatables; carnival-style activities; face painters; food and drinks; prizes; and other interactive education and entertainment stations.
