Jonathan Kuminga has been exploring his options this summer. The Golden State Warriors forward is a restricted free agent, but that hasn’t stopped him from testing his market around the NBA and holding discussions with teams interested in a potential sign-and-trade deal. Reports have linked the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings with Kuminga in recent weeks.

According to a report from ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the Suns and Kings have both extended proposals worth up to $90 million in total salary, with the Suns being the most lucrative of the offers.

Kuminga and Turner have used July to explore their sign-and-trade options. The most significant negotiations have been with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, getting proposals up to four years approaching $90 million total, including a player option for the final season, sources said. Phoenix has made the most lucrative push via sign-and-trade.

Unfortunately for Kuminga, the Warriors are reportedly uninterested in any of the proposed sign-and-trade deals from Phoenix or Sacramento. As such, Kuminga’s negotiations with both teams are unlikely to result in anything more than disappointment. Therefore, the former lottery pick has two choices: sign with Golden State and look to force a trade down the line, or sign his qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Kuminga’s reluctance to make a decision regarding his future is reportedly slowing down the Warriors’ moves in free agency. They remain the only franchise not to sign at least one new player this summer. Sooner or later, the current stalemate will have to come to an end. How that happens remains anybody’s guess.
