Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga remains unsigned with August approaching, and the stalemate between him and the organization has left potential trade talks with the Sacramento Kings at a standstill.

The Kings have been one of the most persistent teams exploring a sign-and-trade for the 22-year-old forward, but discussions have stalled, in part because Golden State reportedly has no interest in acquiring DeMar DeRozan or Devin Carter in return, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Kuminga, who averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists across 47 games last season, showcased his offensive upside in the playoffs. With Stephen Curry sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Kuminga led the Warriors in scoring from Games 2–5 of their second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 24.3 points on 55.4% shooting.

Golden State Warriors Standing Firm on Asking Price

Golden State views Kuminga as a key asset in both its short- and long-term plans. League sources told FastbreakJournal.com that the Warriors floated a two-year, $48 million contract structure that includes a player option. While the proposed deal falls below Kuminga’s desired $30 million annual salary range, it would give him the chance to re-enter the market in 2026 when more teams are expected to have cap space.

Kuminga’s camp remains focused on securing a larger offensive role, believing that his upside points toward future All-Star selections. If an agreement isn’t reached, Kuminga could accept his $7.9 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer—though that route offers no long-term security.

The Warriors’ priority is to re-sign Kuminga but leave open the possibility of moving him in a blockbuster trade for a star alongside Curry. However, the unresolved negotiations are also holding up other free agency moves, including the team’s efforts to sign Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton, per sources.

Sacramento Kings’ Trade Proposal Falls Flat

According to Amick, the Kings’ attempts to include DeRozan or Carter in a trade framework have not intrigued Golden State’s front office. DeRozan, who turns 36 on Aug. 7, is a six-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection. He averaged 22.2 points last season and is entering the second year of a three-year, $73.9 million deal.

Carter, meanwhile, was the No. 13 pick in the 2024 draft but struggled to find rotation minutes, averaging just 3.8 points in 11.0 minutes across 36 games as a rookie. Golden State does not appear interested in a development project or a veteran scorer on a sizable contract.

The Phoenix Suns have also shown interest in Kuminga, but neither suitor has reported substantive traction. Until movement occurs, Kuminga remains on the Warriors’ roster, with his future very much in limbo.
