MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – For the first time in franchise history, the Memphis Grizzlies will play a regular season game outside of North America, but the team won’t play its annual home game on MLK day.
The NBA announced the Grizzlies will take on the Orlando Magic twice in Europe, with the first game coming Thursday, January 15th in Berlin, Germany, and the second game being played Sunday, January 18th in London, England.
The scheduling of these games means that for just the second time since 2003, the Grizzlies will not host an MLK Day Game.
The Grizzlies have played a home game on MLK Day almost every year since the franchise moved to Memphis.
The MLK Day game is an annual celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis in 1968.
