OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The mayor of Oklahoma City is honoring a player from the NBA Championship team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Mayor David Holt proclaimed July 30 as ‘Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Day’ in honor of him bringing home the franchise’s first championship as the Thunder.
“SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER is one of 18 Thunder players who collectively won for Oklahoma City our first NBA Championship,” Holt says in a social media post. “All 18 will live forever in our city’s history and in our hearts. In recognition of this historic accomplishment, I hereby proclaim that today is SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER DAY in Oklahoma City!
Gilgeous-Alexander was named the regular season and NBA Finals MVP for 2025.
