Derrick White Reveals ‘Insane’ Plan San Antonio Spurs Have originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Antonio Spurs did not add a star like Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, despite rumors suggesting that they would, but they were still incredibly productive.

Not only did they draft Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant, both elite young players, but they also filled an area of need, signing backup center Luke Kornet to a four-year deal.

Finally, the Spurs seem to have a reliable big man behind Victor Wembanyama, and if Kornet is not ready for a bigger role, Kelly Olynyk is a proven veteran who can step up.

Former Spur and former teammate of Kornet’s, Derrick White, doesn’t think that will be an issue.

“I think San Antonio is going to love him,” White said on his self-titled podcast. “They’ are ‘re probably gonna play him and Wemby together, which is gonna be insane. He’s gonna be absolutely insane. He’s just a guy that knows how to play the game the right way, you want to play with.”

While White is right to be optimistic about Kornet, it’s worth noting that neither Zach Collins nor Rudy Gobert has been able to effectively share the court with Wembanyama.

Now, if Wemby does slot into more of a power-forward role on offense, there is a world where he and Kornet can run the floor, although it’s hard to see that happening for more than five minutes per game. Expect, for the most part, Kornet to be the only center on the floor when he plays.
