UNI head men’s basketball coach Ben Jacobson receives five-year contract extension

  • August 4, 2025

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – UNI head men’s basketball coach Ben Jacobson has signed a contract extension, keeping him Cedar Falls for the next five years, Director of Athletics Megan Franklin announced Monday.

The winningest coach in Northern Iowa men’s basketball history, Jacobson signed a five-year rolling contract.

Jacobson is entering his 20th season at the helm of the Panthers. His 374 victories rank second all-time among Missouri Valley Conference head coaches.

Jacobson’s Panthers have won four MVC regular season championships and four conference tournament championships.

“Ben Jacobson has rewritten the history books in a career highlighted by championships, shining moments and mentoring young leaders,” said Franklin in a release. “He has chosen to build his legacy career by leading UNI men’s basketball for nearly two decades.”

Jacobson has been named MVC Coach of the Year five times, most recently in 2022.

“I am both excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead our men’s basketball program,” said Jacobson in a release. “We are in the midst of big changes across the college athletics landscape. Megan has a unique perspective, bold vision and the determination to position Panther Athletics for great success. I couldn’t be more excited to work closely with her as the leader of our men’s basketball program.”
