DeAaron Fox has secured his future with the San Antonio Spurs through the 2029–2030 season by agreeing to a massive four-year contract extension worth $229 million. This agreement, which comes after Fox was traded to the Spurs in February of last year, demonstrates the team’s dedication to developing its young players. The terms of the contract were verified to ESPN by Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports.

Fox will be with the Spurs for the foreseeable future thanks to this maximum contract. With an average yearly salary of $57.25 million, Fox is among the highest-paid NBA players, making the deal a significant financial commitment.

Fox had previously signed a $163 million, five-year contract with the Sacramento Kings, which would have allowed him to become a free agent following the 2025–2026 campaign. Fox, however, stated that he wanted to negotiate a new deal after being traded to San Antonio, indicating that he intended to stay for the long haul.

The Spurs’ management has been vocal about their plans for Fox, seeing him as a pivotal player who can develop alongside their young roster, including emerging star Victor Wembanyama. A team executive remarked, “When we made that trade, we knew what the contract status was… We see DeAaron as someone who can grow with our young players and be a real leader for us. We’re hopeful we can make something happen to keep him in San Antonio for a long time.”

Notwithstanding his injury struggles, which included a left pinky injury that kept him from playing more than 18 games the previous season, Fox’s new deal firmly establishes his position with the Spurs. To succeed in the upcoming seasons and win their first championship since 2014, the club hopes to capitalise on his abilities and leadership.

DeAaron Fox is expected to be a key component of the Spurs’ future goals with this new contract. His commitment not only highlights the team’s investment in his talent but also their strategy to create a competitive roster that can contend for titles in the years ahead.
