The NBA offseason calendar has flipped to August as the free agency period has slowed to a grinding halt. There are a handful of restricted free agents–notably for the Philadelphia 76ers, Quentin Grimes–that are still looking for deals.
The Golden State Warriors are dealing with that at the moment when it comes to Jonathan Kuminga. The Warriors are looking to come to terms with Kuminga on a deal and it has held up other free agency orders for them such as signing two former Sixers in the form of De’Anthony Melton and Al Horford.
Per Marc Stein via his Substack, the two former Sixers are expected to sign with the Warriors:
Also: Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II have all long been expected to sign with the Warriors this summer but remain on hold when it comes to making those deals official while the Kuminga situation plays out.
Melton signed with the Warriors in 2024 free agency after two years with the Sixers, but suffered a season-ending injury and was then traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Now healthy, he will look to get himself back on track in the league. Horford, of course, spent the 2019-20 season in Philadelphia before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the offseason.
