Bexar County voters will have a say in the proposed renovations to the Frost Bank Center and the construction of a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs downtown.

They’ll be able to vote on whether or not the county will devote public dollars to the project after county commissioners voted to call for an election to raise taxes on hotel rooms and car rentals.

This means a vote will be held on November 4, and up to $311 million could wind up going to the construction of the new Spurs arena at the former site of the Institute of Texan Cultures.

San Antonio officials have estimated the cost of the project to be around $1.5 billion, and the county commissioners have voted to cover 25% of the cost, capping out at $311 million.

The Spurs are also asking the city of San Antonio to contribute $500 million, and they’re pledging $500 million of their own money as well.
