BROWNWOOD, Texas — The City of Brownwood has been chosen by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) to host the NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Championship in both 2026 and 2028.

The 2026 tournament is set for March 11–14, while the 2028 event will occur from March 8–11.

Both championships will take place at the Historic Brownwood Coliseum, the home court of the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the NJCAA DIII Women’s Basketball Championship to Brownwood! This is a chance to showcase our amazing city, facilities, and hospitality to visitors from across the nation, but most importantly, to celebrate the championship with our own community,” said Mayor Stephen E. Haynes.

The Brownwood Coliseum, originally built in 1963, has recently undergone $5 million in renovations over the past three years, with additional improvements planned.

These updates aim to provide a high-quality environment for student-athletes, staff, and spectators.

Robert Anders, Sports Coordinator for the City of Brownwood, said, “We are honored to host the NJCAA DIII Women’s Basketball Championship. Our staff and volunteers are already preparing to make this the best student-athlete experience possible, and we are counting down the days until we welcome these talented athletes to Brownwood.”

The newly constructed Brownwood Event Center Complex, located across the street from the Coliseum, will serve as the venue for the pre-tournament banquet and will offer meeting spaces and hospitality areas for participating teams.
