Think you have what it takes to play professional basketball? The Motor City Cruise may have a spot for you.
The G-League’s Cruise, an affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, are holding open tryouts on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center. The two-session tryout offers players a chance to join the Cruise for their October training camp.

Though it’s an open tryout, it’s not a free tryout — there’s a $250 entrance fee and limited spots. Teams can invite up to three players from open tryout sessions to their training camp.
The Cruise have a recent history of rostering players they discovered from an open tryout. Detroit native John Ukomadu not only got an invite to training camp off an open tryout in 2024, but also became the first Cruise player ever to go from an open tryout to completing a full season with the team.
He appeared in 41 games for the Cruise in the 2024-25 season while averaging 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Ukomadu played his college ball at Eastern Kentucky and is currently listed on the Cruise’s roster. He went to Roseville High School and was named a Free Press All-East honorable mention for the 2018-19 season.
