PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Members of the Boston Celtics will join dignitaries on Thursday to break ground on an early education center in Providence.

Team President Rich Gotham, head coach Joe Mazzulla, and star player Jayson Tatum will be on hand for the noon event.

They’ll join Mayor Brett Smiley, President and CEO of Amica Insurance Ted Shallcross, Executive Director of Providence Housing Authority Melissa Sanzaro and others.

The new early education center is in the Manton Heights neighborhood and is expected to open early next year.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include a speaking program and a walking tour.

The Amica Companies Foundation and the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation provided funding for development of the early childhood education center.
