JEFFERSON, Ore. — While scrolling through social media, you’re sure to see the passion from Rip City fans. And the story of one fan’s love for the team is undeniable.
His name is Oscar Ortiz. But online, he goes by something a little more familiar to us in the Northwest: Blazer Fan.
At first glance, he might just look like another passionate supporter—but that’s not quite it. Oscar doesn’t just cheer for the Trail Blazers. He lives for them. From his small town of Jefferson, Oregon, he’s turned everyday moments into moving love letters to the team he’s followed since 2007, when a young Brandon Roy first inspired a spark that never went out.
“I wear my jerseys everywhere,” he told KATU News. “Not a day goes by that I don’t wear one… they mean the world to me.”
Oscar’s videos aren’t flashy. They’re not filtered or overproduced. But what they are—is real. A phone camera, a Blazers jersey, and raw, unfiltered emotion, and many videos of Oscar shooting his basketball out on his driveway. That’s all he’s ever needed to show his loyalty to Rip City.
“I wanted to take photos in my jersey to represent the team for years to come,” he once said. And he meant every word.
So, we did something.
KATU’ Sports Reporter Guillermo Motta reached out to the Portland Trail Blazers. We shared Oscar’s story, his dedication, and his heart. And they didn’t hesitate—not even for a second. Together with the team, we planned something special. After a nearly two-hour drive to Jefferson, we pulled up to his home, where a little basketball hoop stood proudly out front. He had no idea what was coming.
“I’m very happy to be part of the fan base of Rip City, Portland. Nothing brings me joy like cheering for my team. Win or lose, I’ll be with them forever.”
That kind of loyalty deserves to be seen. And more than that—it deserves to be celebrated.
So we surprised him. A Jerami Grant signed basketball, a Shaedon Sharpe signed hat, and other unique items.
The moment was quiet. And then it wasn’t. His eyes welled with tears. His hands shook. The only words he could find?
“Thank you to the Trail Blazers. I will never take anything for granted.”
Oscar isn’t just a superfan. He’s a reminder that sports aren’t just about wins and losses, stats and standings. They’re about people, about belonging, and about heart.
And in the heart of Jefferson, Oregon, there lives a fan who reminds all of us what Rip City truly means.
Forever Blazer Fan. Forever Rip City.
