Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo linked to blockbuster signing with Lakers originally appeared on The Sporting News
There still may be a question mark next to LeBron James’ name in terms of what his future plans are, whether that be retirement or a different team.

But one thing is for sure, after stealing Luka Doncic away from the Dallas Mavericks in the trade of the century this past February, the Lakers are holding on to the Slovenian star for years to come.
And come 2027, another superstar could be on his way to donning the legendary purple and yellow Lakers jersey.
According to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports, that superstar could be Milwaukee Bucks’ star big man Giannis Antetokounmpo, a duo (or potential trio) that would very much spell danger for the opposition.
“For the time being, both Nikola Jokić and Giannis Antetokounmpo are set to become free agents in 2027,” Quinn wrote. “They are banking on someone, whether it’s Antetokounmpo, Jokić or someone we aren’t expecting, to become unhappy somewhere else. The cap space is their leverage, their way of saying ‘you can give us your star or we can take him.’”

Giannis, along with another superstar in Denver’s Nikola Jokic, are set for player options in 2027, and while the “Greek Freak” has teased a departure from the team throughout the offseason, it seems he will be staying with the team for the 2025-26 season.
As for two years from now? Only time will tell. Antetokounmpo will have played through 15 NBA seasons, but if he’s still at as high of a level then as he is now, having both him and Doncic in Los Angeles would be a lethal tandem for anyone that stands in the team’s way.
