One EuroLeague team has added a talented NBA player to its roster before next season.

There’s no doubt that the NBA is unarguably where the most talented basketball players in the world play the game.

However, it’s not the only league with talented stars. After all, there are plenty of EuroLeague teams that have become home to NBA stars during the late stages of their careers.

This was proven once again after EuroLeague’s Panathinaikos reportedly reached a deal with an NBA veteran center.

The 37th overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, Richaun Holmes has carved a stellar career in the league as he completed his 10th year in the league after last season.

However, after a decade-long stint in the NBA, the 31-year-old center is no longer in the league as he has reportedly agreed to a deal with Panathinaikos.

“The American center has found everything with the Clover and is expected to cross the Atlantic on behalf of Ergin Ataman’s team,” a source told Sports DNA.

They added: “The greens have been intensifying their pressing for the last 20 days to acquire the 31-year-old tall player and their efforts, as everything shows, have borne fruit, as the explosive center is ready to wear the greens.”

It was also reported that Holmes was in search of a permanent deal from an NBA team, but failed to find that. Holmes will join forces with former NBA players Juancho Hernangomez and Cedi Osman.

Boston Celtics could have signed Richaun Holmes to bolster depth

Following the departure of Al Horford, the Boston Celtics lost a talented center ahead of the 2025-26 season. Combine that with Luke Kornet’s exit, and the Celtics have depth issues at the center position.

While the Celtics have signed Chris Boucher, who earlier had a confrontation with head coach Joe Mazzulla, it wouldn’t hurt the team to sign another center.

They have Neemias Queta on the roster as well, but given his lingering injury troubles, the Celtics may pay the price later in the season.

Keeping that in mind, someone like Holmes could have been a perfect player on the roster. He averaged 7.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in the 2024-25 season.
