When it comes to some of the best big men in the history of the NBA, the conversation has to include Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley. Even though Barkley went on to win MVP with the Phoenix Suns and led the Suns to the finals, he was phenomenal as a Sixer.
Barkley averaged 23.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game as a member of the Sixers. He shot 57.6% from the floor and even stepped out and showed he can knock down a 3-pointer as well every now and then. He was named an All-Star 11 times in his career–six of those appearances with the Sixers.
HoopsHype ranked the top 20 power forwards in NBA history and Barkley was ranked No. 6 on the list:
The Round Mound of Rebound, Charles Barkley was extremely unique not just for his outspoken personality but for his dominance down low despite being generously listed at 6-foot-6. He was a beast on the glass and as a scorer thanks to his absurd strength and explosiveness in his prime. Barkley never got the ever-elusive ring, but he’s still one of the all-time greats at power forward with his dominant face-up and post-up games, along with his monstrous abilities on the glass.
Barkley was never able to win himself a championship, but he was part of the Dream Team and he did a lot of amazing things during his time on the basketball court. His No. 34 jersey proudly hangs from the rafters at the Wells Fargo Center.
