Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. is making a jersey change.

Jackson is changing switching from No. 13 to No. 8 after seven seasons in the NBA, he announced on Aug. 8.

It’s rare that an NBA player of Jackson’s status changes jersey number this far into a career while still playing for the same team. Former Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant is the most notable example, changing from No. 8 to No. 24 after 10 NBA seasons.

In a reel shared on social media, Jackson referenced his father, Jaren Jackson Sr., who wore No. 8 during a stint of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers.

“Change doesn’t always come from something new. Sometimes it comes from remembering,” Jaren Jackson Jr. said in a post shared on social media.

Jackson has worn No. 13 in each of first seven NBA seasons. He wore the No. 2 in college during one season at Michigan State. His father wore No. 2 with the San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic.
