MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Grizzlies All-Star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. officially changed his jersey number from 13 to 8, according to a post on his Instagram page.
Jackson posted a video to his Instagram announcing the new number, speaking on change and growth and honoring memory. The video showed Jackson on the court with the Grizzlies, blocking shots and dunking, before cutting to clips of a young Jackson in the gym training with his father, Jaren Jackson Sr.
The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, Jackson recently negotiated a five-year, $240 million extension with the Grizzlies, with a player option in the 2029-2030 season. He’s averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 407 games played with the team.
Jackson’s new jersey number is the same one his father wore with the Los Angeles Clippers in the early ’90s.
