‘A lot has changed’: Domantas Sabonis talks about Sacramento Kings offseason
It’s *** lot of fun, you know, it’s *** lot of kids again this year and just excited to see their smiles on their face and with *** lot of competition. Everyone’s eager to play good and at the same time they’re just excited I’m here. I know when I was *** kid and I got *** chance to go to some of these camps, you know, it meant the world to me. To do one and have *** second one, do you try to add something different? No, first one was super easy, super fun, you know, so just trying to do the same thing this year for the kids. these kids one on one. I mean, do each of them get like *** couple of minutes with you? What do you say to? just to enjoy, to have fun, you know, depending on what drill we’re doing, you know, I might drop something important for them, but at the end of the day it’s just to interact with these kids. How much do you remember when you were *** kid and it was like to go to *** camp like this and see NBA player that we never had anything like this, but something similar where you know. Uh, the players from the top club would come to our camps, you know, just to talk to everyone, you know, so that was really cool just seeing them and I remember how that would motivate you as *** kid to keep working hard. Will you allow anyone to score on you? Yeah, yeah, of course for the kids you know they they they need to come out here and have fun. We above rejecting *** couple of kids though too. I saw *** couple blocked shots in there too. Some of these kids were talking, so you know you had to. But no, just, uh, having fun with the kids and uh just making sure, um, they have *** good experience. roots firmly planted in this community. Events like this, spending your summer here. I don’t know if you spend your summer anywhere else, but how important is it just for you to get back to Sacramento’s really important, you know, ever since I got here, Sacramento has welcomed me and my family in open arms, and it’s just been. Really cool ride and we want to stay here and keep keep building inside the community. Tiger to be in one of these camps, he’s still *** bit young, but hopefully next year he’ll definitely be here. Every day I think Tiger is probably. Better than most of my teammates right now. He’s coming every day with me to work out, doing everything, so it’s *** really exciting and *** lot of fun, you know, like I said, Tiger’s been joining me through everything. He’s super excited with basketball, so that definitely makes it more exciting as *** father. Oh. feel like there’s been enough time to decompress after we last saw you at the end of the season. Oh yeah, you know, but *** lot has changed. *** lot is probably still going to change, so you know. We’re just going to wait and see until training camp. Do you feel like you can be an active voice invoicing what you feel could be potentially the best for the team, of course they listen to us, they want to hear what we think. I think Scott’s done *** great job so far and he’s trying to turn things around just like everyone else. It was good. We didn’t have one, so right now we have *** starting caliber point guard. Dennis is very talented. He’s playing in the Eurobasket this summer, so we’ll see him later. He’ll come in shape and ready to go. Maxim and great, you know, you know they performed at *** high level. You know I had IJ and Maxim out in Napa for *** week and we’re just getting work out together and trying to teach the young guys some things. We know the relationship that you’ve had with Doug already to see him get the interim tag taken off and how excited you to continue to work with him. Very excited, you know, I’m very happy for him, you know I’ve seen. I mean he was in there with me those 3 summers every day in the gym, so I’ve seen how hard he works every day and for him to have this opportunity. The fans love him, you know, he’s he’s one of us here, so I think it’s going to be very exciting. Scott Perry said he had meetings with everybody, yourself included. I’m not asking for details of the meeting, but how did that meeting go in that conversation with him? It went. It went well. We’re very excited, you know. I think we think alike and we both want to get this thing running in the right direction and. Values the face of the franchise you take upon yourself to try to I don’t know. I don’t really think about it as much, you know, everywhere since the day I got here, I felt like there’s always been pressure with the Kings to come out and perform and you know I’m just trying to deliver and do my part. Do you feel like you have *** message for Kings fans. Yeah, you know, Scott’s coming in here and trying to change things around, you know, in the right direction. I feel like what the fans want, what the fans believe in, and to come out, play hard, run, you know, be *** gritty team, you know, and so far we’re making the right moves. Everyone’s working hard in summer and you know it’s it’s going to all come down to training camp and get together and make it work. Is it weird to see leave or did you understand that? Understand that you know we know where all these decisions are coming from and you just got to, it’s sad to see *** good friend leave, but at the same time, you understand. I’m happy for him. He’s with the Nuggets now they’re *** top team in the West and all he wants to do is win, so I know he’s happy. You or the rookies I didn’t see their pitch. I don’t remember. I was just there with Tiger. mid such an important piece on offense, having *** training camp with you, Levine, and together in 82 games. How much better do you think the trio of you can be? I think it’s going to help, you know, coming in halfway through the season, also *** new coach, you know, not the system the coach might want to play, players learning it, so hopefully this season, I know Doug’s working hard on the new system, how he wants to play us. Translate it through the training camp and you know so far all summer we’ve been getting little bits and pieces of that new offense. So hopefully when training camp comes you know it’s just smooth and we’re ready to go. This time last year you went to USC and spent some time with both Doug and Damar. Are you continuing to do that? What are we going to see more of the two-man game? Yeah, of course you know I’m flying down tonight after the to LA, so we’re going to meet up with some guys, you know, and just get some. plans for the rest of the summer rest and get away. Are you going to try and do anything internationally in terms of basketball? No, no, no international basketball this summer, you know, just focusing on the team and trying to get this started off right. Beyond this year, do you look at that international aspect of the game still of course, every summer, you know, I wish I was there. Lithuania just beat Georgia today, so I’m excited about that and I wish I was there with the guys, but. Next summer, obviously there’s nothing about World Cup, Olympics, you know, the goal is always to play. There’s some guys that would like to possibility for the US. That will never happen. That’ll never happen. On Lithuania.

Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis hosted his second annual youth basketball camp in Rocklin, offering local boys and girls from first to eighth grade a chance to improve their basketball skills through drills, team-building exercises, and one-on-one time with the three-time NBA All-Star.
Sunday’s camp was sold out, featuring boys and girls from first to eighth grade. In addition to the camp activities, it was also the first time to speak with Sabonis about the Kings’ offseason so far.
A year ago, De’Aaron Fox was the face of the franchise, Mike Brown had just received a contract extension as head coach, and Monte McNair was the general manager.
