After adding two players in the 2025 NBA draft, Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain is eager to see VJ Edgecombe and Johni Broome take the court next season.

The Sixers took Edgecombe with the third overall pick after finishing with an undewhelming 24-58 record last season. With their own second-round pick available, the front office selected All-American Johni Broome with the 35th pick.

The two players are expected to play pivotal roles next season for coach Nick Nurse, with Edgecombe even in the conversation to start on opening night. McCain told Declan Harris of 76ers on SI that he was happy to see the team draft them.

A-plus decision by our front office, VJ and Johni. They’re super cool, just getting to know them. I’ve already hung out with VJ a few times at my place, and we’re just getting to know each other, just great energy. I always try and figure out people’s energy and how they react to certain things, and it’s just cool to see somebody who’s high energy like that, and a good, good person at heart, which is the best part.

Edgecombe debuted with the Sixers in summer league last month, averaging 21.5 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks on 42.5% shooting from the field. He was limited to two games due to a left thumb sprain.

Broome logged seven appearances, averaging 11.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals on 38.9% shooting from 3-point range. He registered two double-doubles, including a 22-point, 13-rebound performance in his last game on July 16.

The Sixers are excited about the additions of Edgecombe and Broome and believe they have a bright future ahead. The rookies already appear to have the support of McCain heading into next year.
