Jimmy Butler’s summer trip to China quickly became a viral moment for Golden State Warriors fans.

While promoting his partnership with Li-Ning, Butler met Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming, and their photo together sparked fan demand. Warriors’ social media team reposted the photo, and fans quickly jumped in. Some suggested urging the team to make a roster shake-up or bring in international influence. The Warriors are the only team in the NBA that did not add a new player this offseason.

Butler, meanwhile, joined the Warriors midway through the 2024-25 season and stayed active. He averaged 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 30 games last season. His recent video working on martial arts with Jackie Chan caught plenty of attention, but now, it’s Yao Ming driving fan chatter online.

Warriors fans believe the organization should make some major moves this offseason and joked about adding Yao Ming to the rotation with Jimmy Butler.

“At this point just sign him. We have nobody at center,” a fan commented.

“Would be better than any of our Centers rn,” another one wrote.

“Can we sign him?” someone questioned.

“We got a center,” someone posted.

“Jimmy looks small next to Yao,” a fan commented.

“Yao is 44 and broken, but would still be the best center on the Warriors’ current roster,” a fan believes.

“Oh my god he’s huge,” one commented.

“Cmon warriors, get this oversized slew footed Neanderthal in uniform,” a fan stated.

As training camp approached, Butler would return to a familiar locker room. But with fans’ pressure growing, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Joe Lacob may soon push to act and make key additions before the new season begins.
