The Miami Heat have had a quiet offseason following an eventful 2024-25 NBA season.

Last season, Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat’s relationship soured as the 6x NBA All-Star was ultimately traded to the Golden State Warriors.

As a result, the Heat are obviously entering a new era with the likes of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo being the best players on the roster.

However, following the departure of Kevin Love, the Heat still need a forward/center who can log quality minutes off the bench.

With the conclusion of the NBA Summer League, most teams will likely remain quiet until the start of NBA Training Camp.

But fans can still expect a move or two to be made during this time. Speaking of which, the Heat could potentially add a talented prospect ahead of the upcoming season.

It’s none other than former Dallas Mavericks center Kai Jones, who is working out with the Heat, per Chris Haynes.

The Heat Nation had a lot to say about the news on X.

“Erik Spoelstra will figure it out,” one fan wrote. While another added: “Yes, sign this beast right now!”

“He was low-key tough with Dallas,” a third fan added.

“If any team can get him right, it’s Miami,” a fourth fan stated.

“Please sign him, he is a baller and has totally turned it around,” a fifth fan requested.

Jones last played for the Mavericks, averaging 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game during the 2024-25 NBA season.

Kai Jones is on the verge of becoming an NBA journeyman

While Jones had a stellar 12-game run with the Mavericks last season, outside of it, he has struggled to find a consistent role on an NBA team.

The New York Knicks originally drafted Jones with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

Following a two-year run with the Hornets, Jones found himself out of the league. He enjoyed a year-long spell outside of the NBA before returning to the LA Clippers for the 2024-25 season.

The Clippers then traded him to the Mavericks, where he played the best basketball of his career. Jones has a career average of 3.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.
