It hasn’t quite clicked yet for Kessler Edwards in the NBA, but if it does, he could be a dynamic player, and that’s just what the Denver Nuggets are hoping.
The Nuggets signed Edwards on Tuesday to a tryout deal (Exhibit-10).
The 6-foot-8, four-year pro out of Pepperdine could be a solid shooter with a lengthy frame that offers solid defense. He was taken with the 44th pick of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Brooklyn Nets and spent parts of his first two seasons there. He’s bounced around between Sacramento and Dallas, most recently playing for the Mavericks last year.
Edwards just turned 25 this week and has played 178 NBA games, where he’s shot 36% from distance. His limited time increased to some real action last year with Dallas out of the contention picture. He got 18 starts and saw a noticeable shooting increase as well as a respectable average of 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists across those games. He’s also lit it up in 23 G-League games across three seasons, scoring 17 points a contest.

The Nuggets still have an open roster spot, which may be filled by Edwards as the 15th and final man. The team also has all three Two-Way slots filled as well so it’s a full deal or nothing most likely for Edwards.
Edwards could make for a strong 15 man with some versatility, shooting and upside. As a forward who has played both spots and a bit of center last year he would give the Nuggets even more optionality and shooting, which has been the calling card for the first summer led by Jonathan Wallace and Ben Tenzer.
