The Miami Heat added another preseason game Tuesday against the Orlando Magic. (Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports)
This week, the NBA will be releasing its full 2025-26 schedule. Though the Miami Heat announced their full preseason schedule on Tuesday, with a special twist.
The Heat announced Tuesday that they’ll begin their preseason in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 4 at 8:00 p.m. EST. It will be their first of two games against Orlando before the start of the regular season.
Miami follows up its preseason opener with two home games against the Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs. Then, they cap off with three games against the Magic (road), Atlanta Hawks (road) and Memphis Grizzlies (home) from Oct. 12-17.
The broadcast information has not been disclosed and will be released at a future date.
This is a super cool opportunity to play on foreign soil because the game is becoming more global, and basketball is big in Puerto Rico. Five preseason games were played internationally a year ago — two in Abu Dhabi, one in Puerto Rico and two more in China. Additionally, the Heat and Washington Wizards both played one November game in Mexico City, Mexico.
Most teams usually play between 4-6 preseason games. So Miami getting seven cracks at the apple allows more time for Exhibit 10 players to compete for a roster spot, or veterans competing for a rotation spot outside of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo.
We’re in the dog days of summer, but if you squint enough, basketball isn’t that far around the corner! Let’s fast forward, please!
