Like Ace and Cooper Flagg, Duke guard Isaiah Evans is spending some time this summer working a hometown basketball camp.
In Evans’ case, it’s called the Isaiah Evans Basketball Camp in Concord. The camp is hosted by a nonprofit called Destined 4 Greatness Hoops.
Evans is working with young kids who, like him, have wild hoop dreams. Evans is making his come true through hard work and dedication. Despite his lean frame, which gave birth to his nickname Showtime Slim rose to prominence at Duke last season with a brilliant, 18-point first half explosion against Auburn. Eventually, his time was limited by his poor defense, but by the end of the season, he addressed that concern and became a reliable contributor for Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils.
It’s pretty cool that he can now offer this camp and support to kids from his hometown. As he says here, “…I can just try and give back to the kids as possible, just give them a voice of guidance from a distance, maybe. And even now, giving them guidance up close.“
Obviously not all of these kids are going to make the NBA, but if they pursue their dream and it helps them to lay the foundations for other dreams, everyone is going to win.
