BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — The Broome County Community came together to support the fight against childhood cancer at Mirabito’s Coaches vs Cancer Basketball Tournament.
The tournament took place back in December at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, and it brought together high school basketball teams, coaches, families and community leaders in a powerful show of support.
Today, those involved gathered for a check presentation, celebrating raising nearly $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.
“The money was generated through a combination of sponsorships, ticket sales, raffles, and, of course, generous donations from people just like you. Every single dollar contributed has made a real difference in the fight against cancer,” said Ray Scott, Chairman of the Southern Tier Board of Advisors for the American Cancer Society at today’s presentation.
Event organizers are already planning for this year’s tournament in December and are actively seeking new partners to expand the reach of the tournament.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for over 30 years, empowering coaches, their teams and communities to join the fight against cancer and to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
