@hoopshype doesn’t rank Nets G Cam Thomas within the top-26 SGs heading into the 2025-26 NBA season. I don’t believe that this ranking is an issue of Thomas being a free-agent as 76ers G Quentin Grimes is ranked 25th. https://t.co/MxxRd9IMIr

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas is looking to get as much as he can this offseason as he remains an unsigned restricted free-agent in the middle of August. Brooklyn has taken negotiations with Thomas and his camp in a deliberate manner, but part of the reason Thomas is still on the market could be how some in the NBA space view his standing among shooting guards.
HoopsHype recently put out a list of what the top-26 shooting guards will be during the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season and Thomas did not appear on the list at all. HoopsHype put out the same kind of list recently for the point guard position and Egor Demin, Brooklyn’s first of five first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, did not make that list either.
Thomas, 23, is coming off the best season of his four-year career after averaging 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. Despite having his best performance during the 2024-25 campaign, Thomas played in just 25 games as he dealt with a troublesome left hamstring throughout the course of the season.
This offseason has been an interesting one for Thomas as he has entered free-agency during a time where all of the notable restricted free-agents are having a hard time getting paid what they desire. Thomas, who is reportedly seeking at least $30 million per season on his next contract, has even taken the time to defend himself against the critics who point out the variety of opinions about his game.
While there are some NBA executives who believe that Thomas should be getting a contract somewhere between $15 million and $30 million per year, only Brooklyn is able to give him that kind of deal this offseason. Given that the Nets are the only team with ample cap space, along with the fact that no other team is able to offer the kind of money Thomas is looking for, he is stuck in a tough spot. The former LSU Tiger not being ranked within the top-26 of his position probably won’t help matters, either.
