Carolina basketball’s social media account announced yesterday that international talent Luka Bogavac has arrived in Chapel Hill and have enrolled at UNC. He committed to the program over the summer during the transfer portal period, and now Hubert Davis officially has his entire roster on campus.
Bogavac is a 6’5 shooting guard out of Montenegro, and previous played for SC Derby, which is a part of the ABA Liga. Bogavac is coming off a very impressive season — he finished his 2024-25 campaign averaging 14.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He shot almost 50% from the field, but also knocked down 39.9% of his three-point attempts. Hubert Davis will likely look to him to have an immediate impact on the offensive side of the ball, specifically as a perimeter threat that can play off of Kyan Evans, who is another guy who is expected to be a quality shooter for the Heels.
Sherrell McMillan with Inside Carolina wrote an article about the announcement yesterday, and here is what Bogavac had to say about joining the college ranks:
“I hadn’t considered college as an option — during the season, a serious offer and great interest appeared,” Bogavac told reporter Savo Njunjić of Vjiesti this summer (in Montenegrin, translated to English). “Knowing that North Carolina is the cradle of NCAA basketball and one of the most prestigious universities, I couldn’t refuse the offer when it arrived. There was interest from other colleges, but when the offer from North Carolina arrived, I knew that this was it.”
One layer of complication for Bogavac is that he is still waiting to receive clearance from the NCAA to play this season. I would love to say that clearance shouldn’t be a problem, but we’ve seen the NCAA do very curious/suspicious/shady things before. I’m confident that it will all get figured out, but again, it’s the NCAA: we’ll see what happens.
Now that Hubert Davis has his entire roster on campus, he can begin figuring out how he will integrate each player into his game plan this season. This goes without saying, but it also needs to be emphasized for anybody reading this that is not a UNC fan: this year is a very critical year for Davis. Whether fair or unfair, there’s a lot of unrest in the Carolina fan base regarding how his tenure has gone so far. The unfortunate thing is that I cannot pinpoint what it would take to simmer some of the frustrations that exist, but I will tell you this: this team cannot end up in a situation where they are sweating out making the NCAA Tournament. Bubba Cunningham may not make decisions off unrest from fans, but one has to believe that the expectations of the program are very understood and will be taken under consideration by the time the 2025-26 season is over.
I digress, are you excited to see what Bogavac brings to the table this season? What do you think of the construction of this year’s roster? Let us know in the comments below.
