The NFL season is only three weeks away but it won’t be long before the NBA is also back in action.

On Thursday, the league revealed the entire schedule for all 30 teams for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season starting this fall.

2025-26 NBA season opening night schedule

The NBA season begins with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with reigning league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder taking on Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets at 7:30 p.m.

It will be followed by LeBron James, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers facing off against Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors at 10 p.m.

Knicks to start season with Mike Brown as coach

This NBA season marks the start of a new journey for Knicks head coach Mike Brown, who was hired this offseason after the organization let go of Tom Thibodeau, despite leading the franchise to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in the last 25 years.

After making it to the second round or later in the playoffs each of the last three years and posting 50-plus wins in back-to-back seasons, the standard is at an all-time high for the Knicks this century.

Here’s all you need to know for the Knicks’ schedule in the 2025-26 season:

Knicks 2025-26 schedule: Notable dates

Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.: Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Friday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.: Knicks vs. Boston Celtics

Thursday, Dec. 25 at 12 p.m.: Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Monday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m.: Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks

Sunday, March 4 at 7 pm.: Knicks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

The Knicks begin their 2025-26 campaign on their home court as they welcome in the Cleveland Cavaliers — who finished atop the Eastern Conference with a 64-18 record in the regular season — on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with the game being the first of a double-header on ESPN’s opening night in the Association.

Two nights later, the Knicks will get things started on Amazon Prime Video, playing in the streaming services first ever game featuring NBA coverage when they host the Boston Celtics on Friday, Oct. 24. It’s the first meeting since New York took down the then defending champs in six games in the Eastern Conference semifinal this past May, where Celtics’ superstar Jayson Tatum notably ruptured his Achilles tendon late in the deciding Game 6 that will keep the six-time All-Star out for a majority of this season.

Roughly two weeks post All-Star Break, the Knicks will host the Thunder for their first matchup against the defending NBA champions on March 4 at MSG. The two teams will then play again for the second and final time in the regular season at the end of month on March 29 in Oklahoma City.

Knicks vs Cavaliers on Christmas Day

The Knicks’ second matchup against the Cavaliers this season comes on Christmas Day, with New York playing on the holiday for a fifth consecutive season.

The Knicks and Cavs are the first of five games that day. Following them will be Oklahoma City vs. San Antonio at 2:30 p.m., Golden State vs. Dallas at 5 p.m., Los Angeles vs. Houston at 8 p.m., and Denver vs. Minnesota at 10:30 p.m.

Knicks vs Mavericks on MLK Day

When the calendar flips to 2026, the Knicks will be apart of the all-day NBA action with a quadruple header on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (MLK Day) on Monday, Jan. 19. After the Hawks take on the Bucks at 1 p.m. and the Cavaliers host the defending champion Thunder at 2:30 p.m., the Knicks will take center stage as they welcome in the Dallas Mavericks to Madison Square Garden at 5 p.m. on NBC and streaming on Peacock. The last game of the night on MLK Day will be when the Pistons host the Celtics at 8 p.m.

It’s one of two games the Knicks will play against the Mavs next season, and the only time they’ll get to play against No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis and Co. at MSG.

Knicks’ 2025 NBA Cup schedule

Friday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m.: Knicks at Chicago Bulls

Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.: Knicks vs. Miami Heat

Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.: Knicks at Charlotte Hornets

Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m.: Knicks vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Along with the full schedule release comes all the info on the NBA Cup, the league’s third year of having the in-season tournament. After the Lakers won the first NBA Cup in 2023, the Milwaukee Bucks won last year’s tournament by defeating eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City, 97-81, in the final last December.

In this year’s NBA Cup, the Knicks are in Group East C, along with Charlotte, Chicago, Miami and the Bucks. New York seemingly caught a break here as each team outside of Milwaukee either made the play-in tournament (Miami and Chicago) or missed the playoffs entirely (Charlotte). They avoided East A that has the Cavaliers (64 wins in 2024-25) and Pacers (reigning Eastern Conference champions), and East B, which features the Celtics (61 wins in 2024-25) and teams destined to make the playoffs in the Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers.

The NBA Cup group play schedule for the has been revealed. The group draw is decided by all 30 teams divided into six groups of five teams, with groups determined by draw based on prior season’s regular season record.
