Killian Hayes played pretty well in the G League last year, and was solid on a 10 Day deal with the Nets. Shot looked improved. He’s always been a good passer/playmaker. I’m not out on Hayes yet. He could be a classic late-bloomer PG. https://t.co/Nyl08IjKKG

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Killian Hayes seemed to be one of the players that were in danger of being unable to continue their career following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. Brooklyn gave Hayes a chance during the 2024-25 campaign to see what he could do after his release from the Detroit Pistons, but he is looking to continue playing in the league.

According to BeBasket (h/t EuroHoops.net), Hayes is looking to continue his NBA career despite not being able to land with another team following his short stint with the Nets last season. Brooklyn actually began the 2024-25 season with Hayes on the roster for training camp, but the Nets eventually waived him due to how many players were part of the guard rotation at the time.

Brooklyn waived Hayes on Oct. 19, but once the team dealt with numerous injuries at the point guard spot, the Nets signed Hayes to a 10-day contract on Feb. 20 to help the team stay afloat. Hayes did more than that as he averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 41.9% from the field and 38.1% from three-point land in six appearances.

Once Hayes signed with the Nets, he explained that he was grateful for the opportunity to show what he could do while taking advice from people like head coach Jordi Fernandez to improve his game. Despite how Hayes was producing, Brooklyn chose not to give a second 10-day contract to him and the Nets moved on with D’Angelo Russell as the starting point guard.

Hayes showed during his limited time with the Nets that he could still play in the NBA, but the seventh overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft could be running out of chances to find his place in the league. Time will tell if Hayes is able to get an invite to a team’s training camp towards the end of September, but he has made it known that he would like another opportunity to prove his worth.
